I bought this item specifically for trying to bring down the mosquito population in my backyard but I had very disappointing results with it. There's not much to this unit, you snap on the brim, attach the cage that holds the mosquito attractant, hang the unit up, and plug it in. The unit works based on attracting mosquitoes into the cage area, then a vacuum sucks them down to the electrified grid where they then fall out of the bottom of the unit. I placed a sheet of white plastic on the ground directly underneath the unit and ran it 24 hours a day for a week. It has only managed to fry a single moth.I have seen mosquitoes land on the outer framework of this unit and then simply fly off. The vacuum on this unit wasn't strong enough to bend a blade of grass. It's possible that the unit I purchased is defective, either way I'm returning it. I would definitely recommend checking the return policy before purchasing this unit.
purchased this item, hung it up about 20 feet from my home as instructed. I don't leave it on 24 hrs a day, as it turns on in the evening on its own. I put a ladder and a bucket directly under it to see if it killed anything. So far, an empty bucket after 4 days. I have seen mosquitos in the actual cage, hanging out on the clear plastic that surrounds the bulb. I seem to have created a nice warm haven for mosquitos. They even have a fan to keep fresh air coming through. They are not sucked through to the bottom portion that is supposed to kill them. I may keep this thing and charge rent, it seems to be wildly popular with the local mosquito population.
